Samsung explains Galaxy S5's heart rate sensor and S Health app

Well, Samsung seems to be showing no signs of stopping in its bid to make consumers privy to how the various features on its latest flagship work. We got a detailed look at the design concept behind the Galaxy S5 only yesterday, and now, Samsung has published an article about the heart rate sensor and the new S Health app that debuted on the S5. According to Samsung, the heart rate sensor is a result of the recent trend of being health conscious, and that it reflects “Samsung’s effort to meet people’s needs and preferences.”

After explaining the technicalities of measuring heart rate, Samsung talks about why it chose to implement a heart rate monitor instead of something else. “Heart rate is one of the most frequently measured pieces of bio-information. Moreover, heart rate can provide useful information, such as your state of health before, during, or after a workout,” says Samsung, and since our smartphones (and wearable devices) are always with us, the company apparently find it reason enough to put in a dedicated sensor for heart rate measurement.
