Mishaal Rahaman, former editor-in-chief of XDA Developers, stumbled upon some interesting tidbits in now-hidden AOSP (Android Open Souce Project) code snippets. It mentioned, “Improve game loading time by boosting CPU via ADPF”. If a game is running, it will use a set of APIs to communicate its state to the CPU, which will then operate at a boosted frequency.
The CPU boost feature is expected to arrive with Android 13, but only to Pixel devices. Details about its availability on other smartphones are scarce, as it could require some SoC-specific fine-tuning. Exynos chipsets shouldn't have much of a problem due to their architectural similarities with the Google Tensor chips.
We should learn more about the feature in the Android 13 developer preview. The program usually kicks off by the end of February, so we won't have to wait for very long. However, we'll have to wait until the One UI 5.0 beta to find out if it will make its way to Samsung smartphones.
