Samsung is bringing a useful Apple AI feature to Galaxy AI

Introduction

This is the entry-level model of the Galaxy S22 series, if such a thing does exist for a flagship lineup. Size-wise, this is the smallest model of the trio. It’s obviously not a cheap device since it’s ultimately a high-end phone, but it’s the most affordable of the bunch.

In addition to its great looks and specs, the Galaxy S22 is a great option for flagship smartphone buyers due to its compact size. It shares many of its core components with the more expensive models in the lineup.

Design

The Galaxy S22’s design is not all that different from its predecessor. Unlike some of the more expensive models in this series, the Galaxy S22 comes with a plastic back. The camera cutouts do blend seamlessly with the metal frame and that adds a touch of elegance to the overall design.

It does have an IP68 water and dust resistance rating which contributes to its durability chops. The device doesn’t have a 3.5mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot is also not present. The physical buttons are located on the right side of the frame with a USB-C port at the bottom.

Specifications

Samsung has gone with a combination of the Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 for the Galaxy S22. These are both advanced 4nm chips with integrated 5G modem. Some markets will get the Exynos version while others will get the Qualcomm processor.

The Exynos 2200 features an AMD GPU which Samsung has closely worked on with AMD. This is the first Exynos chipset with a custom mobile GPU. There are significant performance improvements compared to earlier Exynos processors.

The handset is available with 8GB of RAM with 128GB and 256GB of internal storage. There’s a 3,700mAh battery that supports 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. Support for Wireless PowerShare is onboard.

Display

The front of the device is dominated by its 6.1-inch FHD+ resolution Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. It has a 120Hz refresh rate that’s adaptive, meaning it can switch from 10 – 120Hz depending on the content being viewed to save battery life.

Camera

The handset is equipped with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide f/2.2 camera with a 50-megapixel wide and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. There’s also a 10-megapixel camera on the front. Samsung has made considerable improvements to the low-light photography capabilities of the camera.

Software and Features

The Galaxy S22 comes with Android 12 out of the box. Samsung has confirmed that it will receive four Android OS upgrades. This commitment ensures that the Galaxy S22 will receive OS upgrades up until Android 16. It will also get five years of security updates.

Availability and Price

Prices for the Galaxy S22 start from $799 with the device hitting shelves on February 25, 2022. It’s offered in Phantom Black and White colors in addition to Green and Pink Gold. The Graphite, Cream, Violet and Sky Blue colors remain exclusive to Samsung.com
